Message from the Principal

Spring is upon us and we see our students ready to enter into a time of great fellowship and fun by way of the outdoor life. We have reminded our students of the many activities scheduled for the month of March. We want them to make every effort to celebrate their successes by being to school on time, completing homework and working diligently to participate in all
school activities.


Since the month of March is very busy within our school, please mark your calendars for the events as we work to be involved in Pi/Math Fun Day, Family Fun Night and March Madness!

Thank you for supporting our students by making sure we had water for the Terra Nova testing.

U.S. Space and Rocket Center

STEM at the U.S. Space and Rocket Space Center

Macdonald Intermediate School wants to offer the following activity to enhance students’ knowledge about STEM. We are in the process of scheduling a trip to the U.S. Space and Rocket Center in Huntsville, Alabama. Please click here for further information.

 

Pre-QAR Internal Review

Our Pre-QAR review was November 6-8, 2012.  A team of nine educators from the Kentucky District (Fort Campbell and Fort Knox) conducted an audit based on the five standards outlined by AdvancED. The information related to AdvancED standards are located in your parent handbook or you can find them at www.AdvancED.org.

Our Pre-QAR audit was considered a successful reflection of our school based on the findings documented in the 56 page report.  A copy of the report is housed in the office for anyone who would like to read the entire report.  A summary of the report has been streamlined for your review (see the attachment).  The report is composed of five major categories with a standard and indicators of evidence or a recommendation to be considered.  The results are reported in either as an "evidence" meaning artifacts and documentation were found to support the practices and policies outlined by the standard or a "recommendation"  was given as a consideration to strengthen the practices or policies.  In Macdonald's case, the committee reported 192 "evidences" which highlighted the efficiency and effectiveness of the school's operation as outlined by the vision and goals of the school.  There were 18 recommendations that were considerations.  When the recommendations were grouped into categories, there were only (3) recommendations needed to be addressed, and those focused on increasing, using, collecting and documenting our data process system, professional development, and continuous communication and involvement with parents gaining complete understanding of our vision and goals (enclosed in attachment).  None of our recommendations were targeted "improvements,” but considerations to enhance or strengthen what was occurring within the school or community.

Our school will review and work on the entire report after the Thanksgiving holidays.  Parents are welcome to attend our next Community School Improvement Planning (CSIP) meeting on November 27, 2012 at 3:30 p.m.  The meeting will last one hour.  Contact the school by telephone (502-624-5659) if you are interested in attending.

Our course of action is as follows:
Course of action:

  1. Staff will review and address the information. (Task completion date: November 9, 2012)
  2. Information will be shared with students via the morning show with copies placed in the library.  Teachers may review in their classrooms.
  3. Parents will receive an email sharing findings (Task completion date: November 19, 2012)
  4. A hard copy will be provided at the Booster Club meeting.
  5. Sections of the document will be placed on our website for review with an action plan to address recommendations.
  6. The copy of the action plan/next steps will be sent to the Superintendent.
  7. A copy will be placed in our SIP electronic folder and in our binder.
